Many people think poor posture is only about how you look. In this myth-versus-fact video, Dr. Parsons explains why that's a myth.
Posture and Your Joints
When your posture is off, Dr. Parsons explains, it adds more wear and tear on your joints, and that's the road to arthritis. Arthritis leads to pain, and as she points out, no one has ever asked her how to get more of it.
Posture and Your Brain
Dr. Parsons also sees posture as a sign of brain health. She points to older adults who are slumped over, with their heads forward and their feet shuffling, as a reflection of declining brain health.
It Matters at Every Age
Posture isn't just a concern for older adults. Dr. Parsons says it matters for teenagers, too.
Poor posture is also a common cause of headaches. Learn more in Dr. Parsons' video on 5 common causes of headaches, or explore our chiropractic care.

Poor posture is just a cosmetic issue. What? That is a myth. Poor posture is an indication that the body is going down the wrong path. That is not a healing journey; that is a path of destruction. When you don't have proper posture, you add more wear and tear on the joints, and that's the road to arthritis. Arthritis leads to pain. No one wants to sign up for the arthritis train. No one's ever come to me and said, "What do I need to do to get some of that arthritis? I want some of that." So posture matters. Posture is also a sign of a healthy brain. If you look at our aging population in the retirement homes, they're slumped over, their heads are forward, they're shuffling their feet. That's because their brain health is declining. So posture is a big stinking deal. And that includes your teenagers. Think about that.
