Key Takeaways
- Chiropractors with additional training can adjust joints throughout the body, not just the spine.
- When a joint doesn't move properly, the brain may respond by locking the area down further.
- Shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles, toes, and the jaw can all be assessed.
Many people think chiropractic care is only about the spine: the neck, mid-back, and low back. But as Dr. Parsons demonstrates in this video, chiropractors with additional training can work with nearly any joint. In her words, if it moves, they know how to adjust it.
Joints Chiropractic Can Address
- Shoulders
- Elbows, a common problem area for golfers and tennis players
- Wrists
- Fingers, down to the smallest joint
- Hips
- Knees, which can get twisted getting in and out of the car
- Ankles
- Toes
- The jaw
Why Joint Motion Matters
When a joint isn't moving properly, its motion decreases, and that sends information up to the brain. Dr. Parsons explains that the brain doesn't like it and may respond by locking the area down even more. Staying healthy and mobile depends on all of our joints moving well.
If your thumb feels locked up, your wrist hurts, or another joint just isn't moving right, The Natural Path Health Center in Fresno can assess it and adjust it. Learn more about our chiropractic care, or see how we treat jaw pain and TMJ.

Hey everyone, I am here with Rachel, who is volunteering her body for the sake of your learning experience. We are talking about chiropractic. Many people think chiropractic is just about the spine: the neck, the mid-back, the low back. But for those of us who've had additional training, if it moves, we know how to adjust it. So if there's a problem in the shoulder, we can assess it and adjust it. If there's a problem in the elbow, which a lot of you have, golfers and tennis players, the wrist, even the fingers, even the littlest, tiniest finger joint, if it's jammed or locked up, it's going to hurt. Go ahead and lie down. If there's a hip issue, we want to make sure the hip motion is good. We assess the knee. We have the ankle that needs to move, and then all of these cute little toes. So if there's a joint that's not moving properly, motion decreases. That sends information up into the brain, and the brain doesn't like it. So if there's not motion, the brain may tell that area to go on a bigger lockdown. We need all of our moving bits and pieces, especially if you want to be healthy and mobile. And for those of you who are getting in and out of the car, that's often a type of knee torsion, so you might need to be assessed to see if it needs to be adjusted. And that also includes the jaw. So don't limit yourself. If some of your bits and pieces are hurting, if your thumb feels locked up, if you've got wrist pain, come in. Let's assess it, and let's adjust it, because chiropractic is freaking awesome, because the body knows how to heal. Sometimes it just needs help.
