Key Takeaways
- Falls while learning to walk, or rolling off a changing table or bed, can jar a child's spine.
- Behavior changes, clinginess, irritability, appetite changes, or constipation can be signs a child needs an adjustment.
- Kids may not feel pain, but patterns that start early can cause problems later in life.
Many parents assume children don't need chiropractic care. In this myth-versus-fact video, Dr. Parsons explains why that's a myth.
Everyday Falls Add Up
Think about how many times a toddler falls on their bottom while learning to walk. A padded diaper helps, but those falls still jar the spine. Babies also roll off changing tables and beds, often before parents realize they can roll at all. Dr. Parsons explains that these early falls start subluxation patterns that need to be corrected later.
Signs Your Child May Need an Adjustment
- A change in behavior
- Being unusually clingy, irritable, or crabby
- A change in appetite
- Not pooping
Why Start Early
Kids usually don't experience much pain unless there's a dramatic injury. But Dr. Parsons says the patterns that can make them feel unwell as they get older often start while they're learning to walk. Getting them checked now can reduce the "drama and trauma" later.

Children don't need chiropractic care. Wow, that's nuts. If you think about your little one as they are starting to walk, what do they do? They walk, and they what? Fall on their bum. They have a padded diaper, but that still jars the spine. Or when they're little and you don't think they're rolling around yet, they're on the changing table, you turn, and off they go. Or they're on the bed, and the next thing you know, they're on the floor. Signs that kids need to be adjusted are when you see a change in behavior, if they become unusually clingy, irritable, or crabby, if they have a change in appetite, or if they stop pooping. Think about how many times you fell on your bum when you learned how to walk. That starts subluxation patterns that we then have to correct when they get older. Let's get them checked. Kids don't experience a lot of pain, per se, unless there's a dramatic injury. But some of these patterns that will make them not feel well when they're older start when they're learning how to walk. So let's get them under care now and reduce the drama and trauma when they get older. Kids need chiropractic care.
